This animated cover artwork was designed for Halina Rice's 2020 single "Spheres". The track is the first of a series titled New Worlds, where each track is accompanied by the creation of a virtual world. Spheres being the pilot track in the collection, the associated artwork needed to convey the tone and visual directions of the project. The cover draws inspiration from the electronic music covers of the 70s and 80s with simple geometric shapes that are fractured into pixels that resemble piano rolls in DAWs.
The artwork was built generatively with code using Processing, an open-source creative coding environment based on Java. The code was executed keeping interactivity in mind. While the final piece is an animated clip, the code could be used for interactive performances/installations in real-time.
